Using Skittles to demonstrate diffusion is a simple and effective experiment that requires minimal equipment and produces spectacular results. The experiment is best targeted at Key Stage 3 students, although can be extended and used with Key Stage 4 groups.
Download and follow the simple instructions to view diffusion in action. The experiment can be carried out at home using a shallow plate or a glass instead of a Petri dish placed on any white paper. Why not try other sweets such as Smarties and M & M's, will the same pattern occur?
